A Beginning

Today is the day! Or, really yesterday was the day, the day we ordered it. So today I sit here, obsessively refreshing my tracking information. Because today the first train for my Holiday Line Express train set will ship and I will embark on a project I’ve been planning and dreaming about for too many years to admit on the internet. (Double digits, AH!)

I feel like a freshly engaged woman thinking about all the plans and dreams of a wedding planned as a child and how to make that a reality. Only this is so much cooler because it’s my train set and all the family doesn’t get a say. Well….with the possible exception of my two guys.

To start, I’ve scaled down to N scale. I had once pondered doing this at HO, but changed my mind (This accounts for the years). I’ve found the train of my dreams, the Bachmann Royal Blue; fancy enough to service holidays but not hokey or one holiday centric. So, it’s time to get going.

This blog is a place for me to document this. It’s also a place for me to play with my photography and my train set. What you will find here is hopefully beautiful pictures of my train set as I learn, experiment, and make it grow; My over thinking through the process of making it grow; and my love of trains. What you probably aren’t going to get is a whole lot of technical detail, rigid adherence to reality, and tight train scheduling. Those things awe me, but they aren’t my thing.

This train is fantasy and fun…and probably frustration and hilarity. I’m assuming I’m going to have to decorate most of the stuff in the model. I know there is much more holidays represented in tiny worlds now, but a lot of the stuff has been in my head for a long time. The frustrating and funny part about that is that I’m a klutz at model making.

So come with me, as I drive my family batty and make a mess of model trains.
